Washington (ANI): Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban have made a contribution of 500,000 dollars to charity the Red Cross in a bid to help their fellow Australians left homeless by raging bushfires.

More than 180 people have been killed in the inferno, which has destroyed more than 1,000 homes. The couple appeared via satellite link during an Australian telethon to raise money for the country's Red Cross.

Kidman and her musician husband said they were grieving 'for the people who have been struck so devastatingly by this disaster'. "Our hearts go out tonight to all the families that are dealing with the loss of loved ones and having to rebuild their lives again," Contactmusic quoted them, as saying.

Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe were among other celebrities who took part in the televised appeal.
