Roman Polanski to be released from jail on Friday

Washington (ANI): Filmmaker Roman Polanski is expected to be released from jail on Dec 04 (09) and put under house arrest, say Swiss authorities. The 76-year-old director has been in Swiss custody since his arrest in Zurich in September (09) in relation to a 1977 sex charge.

However, he was finally granted bail last month after three failed attempts at freedom, reports Contactmusic. Officials are set to release him to his Alpine chalet in Gstaad, Switzerland, where he will remain under house arrest and will be made to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, until Swiss authorities decide whether to extradite him to the US.

The director was granted bail last week, but was being held by authorities until he paid the full 4.5 million dollars demanded by court. Polanski went to France in 1978 as he awaited sentencing for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a Hollywood party. He was caught by Swiss authorities while attending a film festival in Zurich in September (09) after 31 years on the run.
