Colin Firth had almost turned down BAFTA winning role

London (ANI): Colin Firth had nearly refused to sign up for the role in A Single Man that has won him the best actor award at the BAFTAs. He thanked the film"s director Tom Ford and a “fridge guy" after receiving the award at the event in Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

“What Tom Ford doesn't know is I have the email in my outbox telling him I could not possibly do this," the Telegraph quoted him as saying. He added: "I was about to send this when a man came to repair my fridge... I don't know what's best for me so I would like to thank the fridge guy."

Thanking the helmer, he added: “An encounter with Tom Ford is to come away feeling resuscitated, a little more worldly, better groomed, more fragrant, and more nominated than one has ever been before. "I have worked with a lot of great directors and he's up there with the best of them. All I know is don't ever press 'send' until you have had your fridge repaired."

He added backstage: "The fridge is still not fixed. You could say he did a better job in terms of really directing my particular destiny than the fridge." Speaking about his Oscar chances, he said: "My chances were one in five before and they're probably one in five at best now. I think the competition is pretty terrifying, quite frankly."
