London
(ANI):
Pamela
Anderson
has
requested
Canada's
Prime
Minister
Stephen
Harper
to
stop
the
country's
annual
seal
hunt.
The
actress
along
with
spokeswoman
for
People
for
the
Ethical
Treatment
of
Animals
dropped
a
letter
to
the
leader
in
a
mailbox
in
front
of
the
Canadian
Department
of
Fisheries
and
Oceans
office.
The
Baywatch
star
tagged
the
hunt
'an
embarrassment
to
Canada'.
She
revealed
that
she
made
the
appeal
during
the
Winter
Olympic
Games
here
because
'the
whole
world
is
watching
Canada'.
She
emphasized
on
little
ice
in
the
Gulf
of
St
Lawrence
for
the
seal
birthing
season,
in
her
letter.
"The
absence
of
this
birthing
habitat
will
have
dangerous
consequences
for
the
entire
harp-seal
population.
Without
ice,
mother
seals
will
be
forced
to
abort
their
pups
in
the
water," the
Mirror
quoted
her
as
saying
in
the
letter.
More
than
50,000
people,
who
want
the
annual
hunt
to
end
permanently,
had
signed
the
letter.
Meanwhile,
Fisheries
and
Oceans
department
spokesman
Alain
Belle-Isle
said,
referring
to
the
little
ice
left:
“Similar
circumstances
in
the
past
have
resulted
in
higher
than
normal
pup
mortality."
