Hit West End play 'War Horse", based on a children"s book by English author Michael Morpurgo, is heading to Broadway next year. The adaptation of Morpurgo"s book about a horse caught up in World War I will run at New York"s Lincoln Center from 17 March 2011, reports the BBC.

First seen at the National in 2007, War Horse is currently booking at the New London Theatre until February 2011. Steven Spielberg has reportedly bought the film rights to the play, which uses life-size puppets to bring the titular animal to life. War Horse is up for a Laurence Olivier award in March after being shortlisted for an audience award for most popular play.

The Queen, Prince Philip and Prince William are among the many who have seen the show, produced in collaboration with the Handspring Puppet Company.
