Deathly Hallows 2 breaks Lord of the Rings record

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has broken the record of the movie The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King by grossing $1.14 billion at the Box Office. The final Harry Potter film has become the third-highest-grossing movie of all time at the worldwide Box Office.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King had collected $1.12 worldwide including $377 million at the domestic Box Office and $791.1 million overseas. Whereas Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has earned $343.1 million domestically and $792.4 million in international market over the weekend.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was expected to beat Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($344.2 million) to become the top grossing film of 2011 in North America. However, the movie is only days away from overtaking Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($798.1 million) to become the No. 1 international title of the year.
