Discovery to launch ''Man vs Wild'' in India

Guwahati, Feb 3 (PTI) From being nearly buried alivein an avalanche while escaping a deserted island on a bamboowindsurfer, trained survivor Bear Grylls returns with hispopular programme ''Man vs Wild'' on Discovery Channel.

Announcing the national launch of the TV programme onFebruary 7 at 9 pm, Rajiv Bakshi, Vice-President (Marketing)of the Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, said here today thateach of the new episodes would present Grylls with challengesin the wild.

"Man vs Wild is one of the most successful and wellreceived programmes of the Discovery Channel. Grylls showsviewers how to survive the toughest environment by puttinghimself in the position of a stranded castaway and makes itlive," Bakshi said.

In the new season, Grylls travels to remote localesincluding Australia''s northern territory, Georgia''s CaucasusMountains, a deserted island south of Papua New Guinea, thesnowfields of the Canadian Rockies among other areas sharinginvaluable survival strategies.

In a special episode titled ''Fan vs Wild'' Grylls takestwo viewers along with him for first hand experience ofsurvival in extreme conditions.

"Along the way, Grylls braves biting cold, walksdesolate deserts and encounters dangerous predators," Bakshisaid.

He also added that the channel had come to the regionfor the first time and they had decided to launch theprogramme ''Man vs Wild'' from here.
