The Artist adjudged as Best Picture at Oscar Awards 2012

The Artist has been adjudged the Best Picture at the 84th Academy Awards. Along with The Artist, there were around eight other movies like The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse in the race for Best Motion Picture of the Year in Oscar awards 2012.

The Artist, which is directed by Michel Hazanavicius, is a romantic comedy drama film. The story takes place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on the relationship of an older silent film star and a rising young actress, as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the talkies. Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo have played the lead roles in the film.

Thomas Langmann produced movie has already won several honours at different award events. To name a few, The Artist has bagged seven coveted awards at the 65th British Academy Film Awards BAFTA. It was also nominated for six Golden Globes and won three of them. Now, the Oscars is the biggest recognition that is coming its way.

The Artist was nominated in ten major categories at the 84th Academy Awards. But the movie is successful in bagging five coveted awards in categories like Best Picture (Thomas Langmann), Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius), Best Actor (Jean Dujardin), Best Costume Design (Mark Bridges) and Best Original Score (Ludovic Bource).
