Fifty
Shades
Darker,
the
second
installment
from
the
erotic
Fifty
Shades
franchise
has
probably
got
a
director.
After
a
long
wait,
James
Foley
is
the
frontrunner
to
direct
the
sequel
to
the
almost
$570
million
worldwide
and
counting
blockbuster,
Fifty
Shades
of
Grey.
James
Foley
who
directed
films
such
as
1992
David
Mamet
adaptation,
Glengarry
Glen
Ross,
and
the
Halle
Berry
starrer
thriller,
Perfect
Stranger,
is
the
clear
choice
for
the
gig.
Foley
also
directed
the
Mark
Wahlberg
film
Fear.
However,
it
is
not
yet
officially
confirmed
because
the
studio
is
still
deciding
whether
or
not
to
hire
their
desired
helmer
for
back
to
back
films,
Fifty
Shades
Darker
followed
by
Fifty
Shades
of
Freed
in
order
to
meet
Universal's
release
dates,
which
has
Fifty
Shades
Freed
scheduled
for
February
2018.
According
to
Deadline
and
The
Hollywood
Reporter,
the
new
director
is
down
to
one
of
three
candidates;
Mark
Pellington
and
Tanya
Wexler.
Foley
will
join
the
Fifty
Shades
family
after
the
trilogy's
original
director,
Sam
Taylor-Johnson
opted
out
of
the
franchise
in
March
post
direction
of
the
first
film,
Fifty
Shades
of
Grey.
The
on-set
conflict
between
author
E
L
James
and
director
Sam
Taylor-Johnson
led
to
the
latter
and
screenwriter
Kelly
Marcel
quit
the
franchise.
Fifty
Shades
of
Grey
was
a
huge
hit
due
to
the
connection
which
the
ladies
related
to.
For
example,
the
writer
is
a
woman,
the
director
a
woman
and
screenwriter
too
was
a
woman!
Now
the
franchise
might
go
in
the
hands
of
a
man
if
James
Foley
is
officially
confirmed.
E.L.
James'
husband,
Niall
Leonard
is
writing
the
script
for
the
sequel,
which
Universal
Pictures
announced
will
release
in
February
2017.
Jamie
Dornan
and
Dakota
Johnson
return
as
Christian
Grey
and
Anastasia
Steele
in
Fifty
Shades
Darker.
Michael
De
Luca
and
Dana
Brunetti,
alongside
E
L
James,
the
creator
of
the
Fifty
Shades
trilogy
will
produce
again.
