Groot has been one of the important characters in the first instalment of the Guardians of the Galaxy film, and therefore, director James Gunn said the entire team has done considerable work to bring back that character in a different tone.

Talking about the character of baby Groot, James Gunn said, "I think also, the whole personality of Groot and who he was (now changed), it was there on the page and then you forget about it while you were shooting the first movie."

"But now everyone knows Groot so well that we have much larger awareness, me and the cast, of a baby Groot being there at all times. And him being one of the members in the scene." Said the director.

James Gunn also added that baby Groot is a better-written and complete character than its previous appearance as a grown-up Groot.

"I think he's a better-written character than the first Groot in some ways. Not that he was poorly written at all, but I think he's just more complete character." James Gunn said in a statement.

"All right - lots of articles coming out on this - I said Groot was a 'more complete character IN SOME WAYS." James Gunn stated further.
