Dev, who lost the award to Ali, was seen cheering for the actor. Dev came all the way to Oscars with his mother to experience this greatest award extravaganza.

The award for the Best Supporting Actor has been presented to the Moonlight actor by another talented actor Alicia Vikander at the 89th Annual Oscars held at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles.

With this Oscar win, Mahershala Ali becomes the first Muslim actor to have won an Oscar ever. He became bit little emotional after having his hand at the golden statue.

"I want to thank my teachers ... I have so many wonderful teachers," said Mahershala Ali.

"My teachers told me that 'it wasn't about you but these characters'. It is service to these stories and characters. I would also thank the cast and crew for the wonderful experience," Ali added.

"I would thank my wife who was in her third trimester. We just had a daughter three days ago. Thank you for being a soldier through this process," Ali stated further.
