Harry Potter's Dumbledore Passes Away: Sir Michael Gambon, who is known for his portrayal of Albus Dumbledore in the 'Harry Potter' film series has passed away. The esteemed actor succemed to pneumonia. He was 82.

HARRY POTTER'S SIR MICHAEL GAMBON PASSES AWAY

Michael Gambon essayed the role of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry's headmaster in the third installment of the Harry Potter series, 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'. He took over the role from the late Richard Harris.

The 82-year-old legendary actor was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to pneumonia. As per AP, the news of his death was confirmed by his family through a statement released by his publicist. The heartfelt statement read, "We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside."

MICHAEL GAMBON'S CAREER & ACCOLADES

Michael Gambon was born on October 19, 1940, in Dublin, Ireland, and his illustrious career spanned over five decades and he left an indelible mark in the world of film, television, and theater. While he originally trained as an engineer, he found his interest in acting and went on to become an enigmatic performer over the years.

Gambon's accolades include three Olivier Awards and two Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. He also received four British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards for his outstanding work in television. His contributions in the field of drama led to him being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998.

Gambon got his acting break in 1963 with a minor role in Hamlet, produced by the National Theatre Company and helmed by Laurence Olivier.

While Gambon is widely recognized for his role in the Harry Potter film series, he once admitted to not having read any of J.K. Rowling's novels. He said that he wanted to follow the script to avoid being overly influenced by the books.

Michael Gambon retired from the stage in 2015. He cited the difficulty in remembering lines in front of a live audience as the primary reason.

Apart from his role in the Harry Potter series, Gambon is also known for playing the French detective, Maigret in Fantastic Mr. Fox.
