Met Gala 2023: When Journalists Addressed Deepika Padukone As Priyanka Chopra; Here’s How Pathaan Star Reacted

Met Gala 2023: The annual fund-raising gala event is just around the corner, and everyone is looking forward to the esteemed event. The much-anticipated ceremony is set to take place tomorrow, May 1, 2023. The event is held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute in New York City.
Met Gala holds importance for personalities around the globe including actors as well as designers who are able to showcase their unique fashion sense and creativity on the red carpet while supporting a good cause.
This time around, Met Gala is extra special for Indians as Alia Bhatt will mark her debut on the acclaimed red carpet along with other Indian celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Isha Ambani, and Natasha Poonawalla who will mark their return.
So, as we inch closer to D-day, let's take a look back at an incident where Deepika Padukone was addressed as Priyanka Chopra on the red carpet of the event, by the foreign media.
WHEN JOURNALISTS CALLED DEEPIKA PADUKONE 'PRIYANKA CHOPRA'
It was in 2019 when Deepika Padukone made heads turn on the red carpet in a Zac Posen gown with voluminous ruffles. Deepika's bouffant hairdo, dark lips, and purple eyeshadows made her look like a Barbie doll.,
But in what can be termed as an incident of mistaken identity, she was addressed as Priyanka Chopra by international journalists, who shouted in the background for her pictures. As per a video shared on Instagram, Deepika chose to maintain her calm instead of reacting and continued with a smile. Check out the video.
DEEPIKA REACTS TO BEING ADDRESSED AS PRIYANKA CHOPRA
Well, the same incident took place with Deepika in 2017 when she was promoting her then-Hollywood first film 'xXx: Return of Xander Cage' and a journalist kept calling her Priyanka. Deepika addressed the issue and said, "To me, it's racist and ignorant."
She further added, "And as a fellow Indian, you (the media) should be upset as well. I believe that just because two people have similar skin tones does not imply that they are the same person. Instead of generating a tabloid piece of it, those in positions of influence in the media should be educating them more."
