Oscars 2024 Shortlists: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the shortlists for the upcoming 2024 Oscars in 10 different categories. The shortlists for the 96th Academy Awards have been announced in the following 10 categories: documentary feature film, documentary short film, international feature film, makeup and hairstyling, music (original score), music (original song), animated short film, live-action short film, sound, and visual effects.

Greta Gerwig's fantasy live-action comey Barbie led the way, receiving nods in five categories, followed by Nolan's Oppenheimer, securing nods in three categories.

For musical composition in contention, notable entries are Daniel Pemberton ('Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse'), Ludwig Göransson ('Oppenheimer'), and the late Robbie Robertson ('Killers of the Flower Moon'). Sadly, an Indian Malayalam-language film, 2018 couldn't make it to the list.

Oscars 2024 deets

Now that the shortlists have been announced, the nominations voting is set to take place from January 11 to 16, and the official nominations announcement is scheduled for January 23, 2024.

The 96th Oscars will see the return of American television host-comedian Jimmy Kimmel as the host. The main event will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 10 and will be broadcast live on ABC.
