29th European Union Film Festival (EUFF) Kicked Off With La Chimera, Receiving An Outstanding Response

The European Union Film Festival 2024 commenced in New Delhi, featuring the film La Chimera. The event highlighted cultural ties through cinema with participation from prominent figures.

The 29th iteration of the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) launched in New Delhi, captivating a full house with the screening of "La Chimera," a film that was in the running for the Palme d'Or. The narrative of "La Chimera" takes viewers on an enthralling expedition through contrasts - life and afterlife, wilderness and urbanity, festivity and isolation - as it weaves the interconnected fates of its characters, all in pursuit of their elusive Chimera. The festival, renowned for showcasing 26 award-winning movies in 31 languages across three prestigious venues in New Delhi - the India Habitat Centre, Instituto Cervantes, and Goethe Institute, stands as a significant cultural event in the country.

The opening of the festival saw the presence of Hervé Delphin, the Ambassador of the European Union to India, alongside notable figures including Italian actress Yile Yara Vianello, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute Andrea Anastasio, and Lithuanian director Tomas Vengris. This gathering of cinephiles eagerly anticipates the festival each year, looking forward to a celebration of European cinematic excellence.

Spanning a variety of genres, this rich cinematic experience will travel beyond Delhi to Kolkata and Hyderabad this year, offering a vibrant tapestry of European cinema to the Indian audiences. Italian actress Yile Yara Vianello expressed her joy in representing "La Chimera" at the EUFF, highlighting the film's remarkable global journey and the warm reception it has received. "So happy to be here in India with La Chimera as the opening movie at the EUFF! This film has had an incredible journey so far, consistently receiving a phenomenal response from audiences worldwide. It's exciting to be representing the film in India, a country that celebrates cinema. Additionally, Lithuanian director Tomas Vengris, who attended the festival with his film "Five And A Half Love Stories In An Apartment In Vilnius, Lithuania," shared his excitement about premiering his work in India. "This is my first time in India, and it couldn't be more special. I'm here to represent my film, and I'm eagerly anticipating the screening and seeing how Indian audiences react to it. It's truly a privilege to premiere our film in a country so passionate about cinema and its stars. I'm looking forward to the next few days of engaging with fellow creators at the festival and connecting with the audience."

This year's EUFF, which concludes on the 16th of November, offers an extraordinary selection of films that delve into an array of themes, including intricate human relationships, gender identity, sisterhood, and self-discovery.
