LIFF Celebrates 15 Years With Diverse Films

The London Indian Film Festival (LIFF), Europe's largest South Asian film festival, marks its 15th anniversary this year. The event will span six UK cities: London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, and Liverpool. Supported by the BFI and the Bagri Foundation, LIFF is set to deliver a diverse array of films and events.

Opening Night and Key Films

The festival opens with the European premiere of "Paper Flowers," a US indie film directed by Mahesh Pailoor. Notably, the lineup features "Kill," an action thriller produced by Bollywood's Karan Johar and Guneet Monga. The festival will also screen the first three episodes of "Late Bloomer," a Canadian series by social media star Jus Reign.

Feminist Films and Documentaries

LIFF will highlight feminist films such as "Sthal" and "Wakhri." Additionally, a selection of documentaries will be showcased, providing audiences with a range of compelling stories and perspectives from South Asian filmmakers.

Features Program

The features program includes films like "Ennennum," "Mithya," "Shunya," and "Before Nikkah." This diverse selection aims to reflect the varied experiences and stories within South Asian cinema.

LGBTQIA+ Showcase and Gaming Zone

In Liverpool, the festival will feature a LGBTQIA+ film showcase and a gaming zone. These additions aim to broaden the festival’s appeal and provide inclusive entertainment options.

Industry Events and Accessibility

LIFF will also host industry events to foster networking and collaboration among filmmakers. Efforts to expand accessibility for deaf and hearing-impaired audiences will be a priority, ensuring the festival is inclusive for all.

Festival Growth and Mission

CEO and Programming Director Cary Rajinder Sawhney expressed enthusiasm for the festival’s growth. Sawhney highlighted LIFF's mission to showcase and celebrate South Asian filmmakers, providing a vital platform for diverse voices in cinema.
