Transformers One: Josh Cooley Reveals How Two Friends Became Foes In Transformers' New Origin Story
Transformers One presents the prelude to Optimus Prime and Megatron, exploring the deep-rooted friendship and ensuing rivalry between Orion Pax and D-16. Directed by Josh Cooley, the film promises a mix of emotional depth and adventurous spirit, featuring a star-studded voice cast.

Transformers introduces a captivating world of autobots, taking audiences back to the beginning. This time, viewers meet Orion Pax and D-16, two diligent autobots working in Cybertron's Energon mines. Their friendship is rooted in shared dreams and hard work. However, their differing personalities and ambitions soon set the stage for a dramatic change. What starts as a close bond quickly turns into a bitter rivalry, reminiscent of the ancient tale of Cain and Abel.
The film vividly portrays this classic narrative, showing how deep friendships can unravel into fierce enmity. As Orion and D-16's shared goals clash and trust erodes, their story becomes a powerful reflection on the fragility of relationships and the destructive potential of ambition. Set against a high-tech backdrop, their journey from allies to adversaries delivers a gripping tale of betrayal. Director Josh Cooley sheds light on this world.
Director's Insight on Transformers One
Josh Cooley, director of Transformers One, stated, "The film is essentially about their relationship. They will become Optimus Prime and Megatron, the equivalent of the Titans in Greek mythology. Every decision I made, every story point, every design element goes back to that. Orion Pax and D-16 are at the bottom of the pecking order in Iacon City. Together they rise higher than either ever dreamed, but at the cost of their friendship. You will have compassion for both of them and you will also understand what drives them both. You will witness the struggles that make them who they become. The story is as much an emotional journey as it is pure adventure, which I think is unique in Transformers history."
Unlike previous live-action Transformers movies where robots are battle-ready from birth, Transformers One offers a fresh narrative by revealing characters' transformative journeys. The film delves into the deep bond between Orion Pax and D-16, highlighting events that lead to their epic clash. This new approach promises an engaging experience for fans.
Star-Studded Voice Cast
The movie features an impressive voice cast led by Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson. Other notable voices include Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm. This stellar lineup ensures a thrilling new experience for Transformers enthusiasts.
Transformers One arrives in Indian theaters on 20th September 2024. It will be available in English & Hindi across 2D, 3D, 4D, and IMAX (3D) formats.
This film brings to life a timeless tale set against a futuristic backdrop while exploring themes of friendship and ambition through its compelling characters.
