Born on 5th September 1929 in Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Bob Newhart had started his career as an accountant. Later, he left his job to kickstart his career as a comedy performer and writer. He then changed the scenario of the comedy world and became the king of deadpan humour.

Before quitting his accounting job, Bob had briefly studied law. He had also studied business management before joining the US army and serving in the Korean War. During the course of his illustrious career, spanning over 5 decades, the Chicago legend had received several awards and accolades including the prestigious Emmy Awards which he'd won for his comedy album 'The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart.' Bob had also appeared as a recurring guest in the popular sit-com 'The Big Bang Theory' and featured as 'Papa Elf' in the Christmas film 'Elf'.

Bob Newhart is survived by his four kids - Robert, Timothy, Jennifer, and Courtney. The Hollywood legend had tied the knot with his wife Ginnie Newhart (real name - Virginia Quinn) in 1963. His wife passed away on April 23, 2023, at the age of 82.
