For Ana de Armas, stepping into the role of Eve in Ballerina meant plunging headfirst into the relentless drive of a woman possessed by vengeance. While the character lives in the same universe as John Wick, her story carves its own path - one shaped by deeply personal stakes and a willingness to endure anything to get what she wants.

"It's just bigger than her and she can't control it," de Armas says of Eve's unshakable need for revenge. "One of the things I like the most is that [she's] opposite to John: he wants to get out of the Ruska Roma, and she wants in."

That distinction was exactly what drew both de Armas and director Len Wiseman to the project. "What I was really set on is I would love to do a movie that is actually not a female John Wick," Wiseman explains. "She is actually a character that is, in her own right, a complete badass, but a very different story than John Wick."

One of those differences lies in how Eve fights. De Armas made it a point to reflect the character's struggle through her physical performance - not just in stylized combat, but in showing the toll they take. "I'm a woman in a man's world," she says. "These assassins that I fight in the movie are huge guys, and I want to feel that; I want the audience to feel that every punch, every kick, anything that I get, it hurts. I want to translate that into the physicality of it. I want people to feel like she is barely getting out of it. She's overwhelmed, she's tired."

Capturing that realism meant putting herself through what she calls "the most physical role" of her career. "It's a lot to take in," she says. "All the other action things I did before that were a little smaller helped me."

Her preparation began four months before filming: an hour and a half in the gym with her personal trainer, followed by five hours of stunt work, and finishing with live firearms training. She drilled every weapon Eve uses in the film until it felt second nature. Even after production started in Prague, de Armas continued her training.

"It was intense, I have to say," she recalls. "It was very physical, and my body was hurting most of the time, but the mental power that you have to have to just keep pushing through and overcome the pain, the tiredness, the bruises, the blisters in your fingers from the guns, or the broken nails, all those little things. I felt like I was in the Ruska Roma."

"She was kind of beat up every day," Wiseman adds. "She handled it wonderfully." In the world of Ballerina, survival is never guaranteed - but for Ana de Armas, becoming Eve meant proving that pain is part of the process, and power comes from pushing through it.
