For a highly successful romantic comedy-drama titled 'Anora,' filmmaker Sean Baker won the prestigious Oscar at the 97th Academy Awards for 'The Best Director' category at the event unfolding in Los Angeles. The movie swept as many as FIVE awards out of six nominations, making history.

Against a budget of $ 6 Million, Anora movie earned a massive $ 41 Million, becoming one of the biggest hits of the year 2024. Sean's films are known to seek stories around humanizing flesh trade and the 53-year-old filmmaker wrote, produced, directed, and edited the movie Anora.

Anora is also in nominations for the 'Best Picture' category with high chances of winning it. Baker came into the night the favourite for the directing Oscar after earning the top prize from the Directors Guild of America, a win that historically all but guarantees an Oscars victory. He also took home the top awards at the Producers Guild and Independent Spirit Awards.

The comedy-drama stars Mikey Madison as Brooklyn, an exotic dancer who marries the impetuous son of a Russian oligarch. They impulsively tie the knot on a ketamine-induced Las Vegas getaway, angering his parents, who send their bumbling henchmen after the couple to force an annulment.

To bring Mikey Madison onboard, Sean Baker reportedly told Quentin Tarantino, "If you didn't cast Mikey Madison in 'Once Upon a Time,' there would be no Anora."
