Oscars 2025: Will 'The Brutalist' Win The Academy Awards This Year? Find Out What The People Think

The 97th Academy Awards nominee for the Best Picture Award, 'The Brutalist' has been one of the most celebrated movies of the current year. During its premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, the film won 5 different awards. Since then, it was also nominated for several awards at the 30th Critics' Choice Awards, 82nd Golden Globe Awards, as well as the Oscars. It has also been named as one of the top 10 films of 2024 by the American Film Institute.
With all these praise and accolades, is 'The Brutalist' on its way to win the 'Best Picture' award at the Oscars this year? According to social media, fans have a rather mixed view about the film. According to some users on X, formerly known as Twitter, the movie's first half is an excellent piece of filmmaking and art, with one user writing, "I think the BEST movie of the year is the 1st half of THE BRUTALIST. For everything up until that intermission card I was convinced I was watching a Top 20 Film of ALL TIME." The problem apparently comes once the second half of the film starts, where the movie isn't able to keep up with the quality of storytelling and acting.
There was also a recent controversy surrounding the use of A.I. in the film, which was later confirmed in an interview where editor Dávid Jancsó from the film told tech magazine Red Shark News that generative AI was used in the final sequence of 'The Brutalist' to create a "series of architectural drawings and finished buildings".
This has caused a lot of backlash against the film, with one X user writing, "they used AI in the brutalist not only to avoid paying visual artists for their work but also to manipulate the actors' accents, a fundamental aspect of... acting. this is a disgrace."
Keeping all this in mind, while the first half of the film has had very good reception, only time will tell whether it's lackluster second half as well as the A.I. controversy will be enough to deem it unworthy of the 'Best Picture' award at the Oscars this year.
