The Phoenician Scheme Release Date: Benicio Del Toro, Tom Hanks & Scarlett Johansson’s Film Set To Hit Theatre

Mumbai, 16th May 2025: Universal Pictures (distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery) and Dreamworks Animation are delighted to announce the release of The Phoenician Scheme on 6th June, 2025. Produced by Steven Rales, Jeremy Dawson and John Peet, Co-written by Roman Coppola, The Phoenician Scheme is both written and directed by Academy and BAFTA award winner Wes Anderson. The Phoenician Scheme is a dark and gripping tale of espionage that unravels the complexities of a strained father-daughter relationship. The film features a stellar cast featuring Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, BAFTA Award winner Scarlett Johansson, Prime Time Emmy Award winner Bill Murray, Mia Threapleton, Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, Prime Time Emmy Award Winner Riz Ahmed along with Michael Cera, Benedict Cumberbatch and Bryan Cranston each delivering compelling performances that bring depth, tension, and nuance to this gripping tale of espionage and family intrigue.

The film is centered around a fractured father-daughter relationship set within the confines of a powerful, secretive family-run business. When the daughter-once estranged from her enigmatic father-returns to uncover the truth about her family's wealth, she stumbles upon a covert global operation entangled in political manipulation, surveillance, and betrayal. As she digs deeper into the family's legacy, personal tensions erupt, secrets are exposed, and she must confront where her loyalties truly lie-risking her safety, her identity, and the fragile thread of family that remains.

Discussing the reason behind writing this film Writer-Director Wes Anderson shares "The idea for the movie was to write a part specifically for Benicio del Toro" Anderson said, "I first brought this up with Benicio in 2021, at Cannes for The French Dispatch. I told him then that something was coming his way if he was interested. Benicio and I started working on it very early. As soon as there were fifteen pages of the script, he'd seen that. There was never a moment in the process when Benicio was not involved."
