Jon Favreau On Jeremy Allen White Playing Rotta The Hutt In Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu
Alongside the big-screen debut of Din Djarin and Grogu, The Mandalorian and Grogu introduce a major new addition to the Star Wars universe, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt.

Known for his acclaimed performance in The Bear, Jeremy lends his voice to Rotta the Hutt, a very different version of the species from the giant gangster fans remember from earlier Star Wars films. Rotta has been described as a muscular, gladiator-style member of the Hutt clan, offering a fresh spin on the iconic species. The character reportedly becomes a key part of the story after the New Republic sends Din Djarin and Grogu on a mission to rescue him in exchange for valuable information connected to the Hutt clan.
During the Los Angeles premiere, director Jon Favreau opened up about how Jeremy landed the role and revealed that the two first got connected over their shared on-screen 'chef' history. Favreau, who directed as well as starred in Chef, said, "I had met him, he and I have both played chefs on screen, and we struck up a conversation," Favreau said.
"I've liked his work even before The Bear, in Shameless, so I feel like I've watched him really develop and become this really interesting and complex actor who brings a lot of humanity and vulnerability to his roles. And the idea that we could ground this character with the performance with an actor like that, I thought was a really interesting opportunity," he added.
Another major addition to the film is Sigourney Weaver, who joins the franchise as a leader of the New Republic's Adelphi Rangers. With returning fan favourites, unexpected casting choices, and Star Wars finally making its way back to the big screen, The Mandalorian And Grogu has already become one of the franchise's most anticipated upcoming releases.
