Karan Johar Reviews The Devil Wears Prada 2: 'I Walked Out More In...'
20th Century Studios' The Devil Wears Prada 2 is finally out on the big screen and Karan Johar is absolutely in love with it. The filmmaker Karan Johar, who is a self-confessed superfan of Meryl Streep and the original film, recently attended the first-ever India screening of the iconic sequel in Mumbai and shared his review of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

He reflected on how the original remains deeply nostalgic for him, while the sequel feels strikingly relevant to today's world. Karan noted that the film captures the fading charm of print journalism and the rapid rise of digital culture with remarkable honesty.
Karan, who had earlier met and interacted with leading ladies Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in Tokyo, took to Instagram to share his review. Calling nostalgia "powerful," he wrote that his memories of watching the original film remain "embedded" in his heart.
"I walked out more in love with Meryl Streep (if that was possible) and understanding the pursuits of Miranda Priestly... even though she was a tough leader, even though she was aesthetically judgemental and raising eye-brow elitist to a fault.... But I understood her for her chase to attain excellence and perfection...."
Reflecting on visiting his favourite film, Karan noted that he did not want to compare the two films, acknowledging that the original holds an irreplaceable emotional connection built over the years.
"This sequel speaks of our times, the (sadly) emerging irrelevance of serous journalism (sic)... The digital overdrive Mania that is eating into the beauty of print... the powerlessness of the artistically powerful forces at the hands of corporations... the need for consolidations over ideations... all that in a Comedy? Yes... That's the solid strength of Part 2, it makes u think of the travesty of our times," he said.
Karan concluded the review by saying, "Miranda is more vulnerable, Andy is more hopeful... Nigel is more amiable, and Emily is just wonderful! I ate my popcorn and sat back on my red hot seat and went back to my 33-year-old self who believed that visions can't be replaced by vendors!!! That's all..."
Nearly two decades after redefining fashion on screen, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci return as Miranda, Andy, Emily, and Nigel - back in the high-stakes world of New York City and the iconic Runway Magazine. Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the film is produced by Wendy Finerman, with Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt, and Aline Brosh McKenna serving as executive producers.
A 20th Century Studios film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is now playing in cinemas across India.
