Steal Release Date | Sophie Turner On Breaking Away From Period Roles With Prime Video Show: Hadn’t Done...
Steal follows Zara, a routine office worker whose quiet life is disrupted by an unexpected crime. On Prime Video, the present-day thriller blends sharp dialogue, dark humour, and a strong friendship at its core. Sophie Turner leads a diverse ensemble as the story delves into fear, moral ambiguity, and resilience.
Sophie Turner steps into new territory with Steal, a Prime Video crime thriller launching globally on January 21. The series follows Zara, a routine office employee whose quiet world unravels after an unplanned crime pulls Zara into danger. The show mixes tension, dark humour, sharp emotion and friendship within a present-day setting.

The role appeals to Sophie Turner because it breaks from earlier work and offers more chaos. "I think it was the fact that I hadn't really done anything like this before," she says. "I generally lean toward some sort of period, and this is very current. Zara, my character, is a bit of a mess, and I don't know if I've ever played someone that doesn't have their s*** together. Quite as much as she doesn't, and that was very fun to explore, and it's funny as well, and there's like a beautiful friendship at the core of the story, and I think it's just so multifaceted, this show, that it really, I couldn't say no."
Steal and Sophie Turner in a modern crime thriller
Turner moves away from corsets and castles to portray Zara, a contemporary character without control. Zara is shown as an everyday worker, suddenly trapped in criminal risk that spirals fast. The series leans into emotional confusion rather than neat heroism, while still finding warmth, humour and a central friendship driving the narrative.
Steal is directed by Sam Miller and Hettie Macdonald, with writing by Poppy Cogan and Shyam Popat. Sophie Turner leads the ensemble with Archie Madekwe, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Ellie James and Tomisin Ajani, among others. The thriller is backed by Amazon MGM Studios and Drama Republic, with key roles in production listed below.
