The Sheep Detectives First Reactions: Critics Dub Hugh Jackman's Whodunit Is 'Among the Best Films of 2026'

With just a few days to go until The Sheep Detectives hits cinemas, the critics have shared their verdict on the whodunit and they are all praising the film. Featuring Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, with Hong Chau and Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O'Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein, and Rhys Darby, The Sheep Detectives is a live-action film in which a herd of sheep are doubling up as detectives and out to solve a murder mystery.

The trailers have received much love from audiences globally and the excitement for the film has been amping up as the release date nears. And now, the critics' verdict on the film is out and it is only adding to the film's anticipation. Film critic Tania Hussain has called The Sheep Detectives as 'among the best films of 2026'. She noted that Hugh Jackman brings 'a quiet warmth to how he plays George'. She also praised Patrick Stewart, calling him a treat in the film.

Betsy Bozdech reviewed The Sheep Detectives as a 'charming' and 'cosy mystery'. "The story argues that you should always make room for others in your flock, even (or especially!) if they're different than you are," the review read. Guy Lodge echoed a similar thought. "A rare family entertainment happy not to follow the herd," he said in his review.

Meanwhile, Jim Vejovoda praised the film's screenplay. "Craig Mazin's screenplay is full of truly poignant, heartstring-pulling and profound moments for its sheep characters," the review read, adding that The Sheep Detectives is "full of truly poignant, heartstring-pulling and profound moments."

Tessa Smith noted that The Sheep Detectives is for everyone. "The Sheep Detectives manages to craft a puzzle that is both accessible for children and satisfying for adults," the review read. "The undeniable heart of the film is Julia Louis-Dreyfus," Tessa added.

Kristy Puchko called The Sheep Detectives as "an utter crowd-pleaser sure to be one of the most entertaining movies of the year." She added, "Cozy crime has a new masterpiece in The Sheep Detectives."
