The sequel to Ice Age is about the melting down of the ice predicted by a Fast Tony, a turtle whom in the process of his usual con work predicts that the world will come to an end scaring the camp run by Syd into a frenzy. Manny and Diego go atop the dam that the happy group of animals are protected by and see that it is going to burst since the ice on the other side has melted. After warning the whole group that the ice on the other side has melted, the eventual plan is that they go to the other side of the valley that they live in and embark a "boat" which will save them from the land being flooded with water.
The movie chronicles their journey across the valley. Manny battles with him being the only one of his kind, an issue started up when he tells a story to the attendees of Syd's camp. Along the way he finds Elle another of his kind who thinks she is a possum since she was found by one and hence doesn't know that she is a mammoth. Like expected, over time Manny falls in love with her after trying to convince her for a long long time that she is a mammoth (which she doesn't believe) until while travelling she finds the place where she was found and convinces herself of it.
A scare that always looms large over the head of the migrators to the other side of the valley is that the vultures would eat them up-something they are constantly reminded of by the Lone Gunslinger Vulture as they traverse to the other side of the valley. As the animals get into the boat, the waters break through the dam and they overflow. As the entire valley floods, Mannys new love Elle is caught in a cave, a situation of which he is alerted by her possum "brothers". Manny saves Elle. Just as Elle is saved, the boat is boarded on lifted by the waters leaving Manny and gang to drown in them. Just when it seems time for our favourite characters of ten thousand years ago to drown, one of the walls of the valley opens letting the water out and saving the continent.
As compared to the first part, the second is not that much of an exciter. After the all the first has done all the damage. The second is only but a sequel. There are new characters in the form of Elle, the two possums and the once frozen melted water lurking fish. There are the slapstick one-liners, comedy that only characters like Syd can carry well. But the best carried out of them all is Scrat. However much you may look to evolve I don't think that you can evolve Scrats adventure to get the acorn. That is one thing that anybody going to see Ice Age 2:The Meltdown will laugh thoroughly at. The next step should be a movie only about Scrat not being able to get his acorn involving no one else but Scrat and the acorn.
