The Amazing Spider-Man – Movie Review

The Amazing Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb is a fresh take on one of the most popular super hero stories we have all grown up on. Though we all know that we won't see Tobey Maguire play the amazing Spiderman, expectations are sky high, and director Marc Webb does not disappoint you at all!

Combining the romantic, fiction, comedy and horror genres, Marc Webb weaves an interesting and thrilling plot that is sure to give you an adrenalin high. The action sequences is brilliant and exhilarating at the same time. It will be better if we avoid comparing Marc to his predecessors since he has without doubt done a great job. Music by James Horner is good and so is the cinematography by John Schwartzman. Editing by Alan Edward Bell, Michael McCusker and Pietro Scalia is average. The 3D effects is mind boggling and so are the fight sequences. The romance between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone is the highlight of the film.

Story

The Amazing Spider-Man is a bit different as in this story begins with the sudden disappearance of Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) parents. Peter decides to find the whereabouts of his parents and that search takes him to unpredictable and dangerous path.

Peter is brought up by his aunt May (Sally Field) and a little strict Uncle, Ben (Martin Sheen). Peter, who is forever bullied at school has a strong crush on his classmate Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). One fine day, Peter accidentally stumbles upon a bag belonging to his father and he gets to know that there is some connection between his father's death and the scientist Dr Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans).

In an effort to get to know the crux of the matter, Peter sneaks around Connors' office and gets bitten by a genetically modified spider. His senses begin to heighten and Peter gradually becomes more stronger and faster.

Like a fairy tale, Peter gets everything that he wanted, including his lady love. But his happiness is short lived as his favourite Uncle Ben is taken away from him. Meanwhile, using Peter's formula, (actually belonging to Peter's father) Connors creates havoc with his newfound powers.

Will the Amazing Spider-Man stop him? Watch the film to know.

Performances
Andrew Garfield is outstanding and so is Emma Stone. Garfield easily slips into the suit of the spider and looks extremely convincing. He has an amazing sense of humour and that reflects in his acting as well. Emma Stone gives a tough competition to Andrew Garfield with a meaty and performance oriented role. All other actors have given a decent performance.

Verdict
Go watch The Amazing Spider-Man if you are looking to break away from the monotony of life and get into a larger-than-life world.
