The movie hit screens on September 30, 2022, receiving glowing reviews. It enjoyed significant commercial success, becoming the second highest-grossing Kannada film ever, following K.G.F: Chapter 2, which premiered in the same year. Additionally, in 2022, it ranked as the fourth-highest-grossing film across India.
After the triumph of Kantara, there were rumours about Rishabh Shetty producing a sequel to the film. Subsequently, it was confirmed that Rishabh Shetty would craft a prequel titled Kantara: Chapter 1, set to hit screens in late 2024.

The movie's official launch, marked with a traditional pooja, is scheduled to take place today in Kundapura, Karnataka. Excitement abounds as shooting plans are in motion, with locations set in Sri Lanka and Udupi slated for the end of December or January.
This ambitious project will host a diverse ensemble of talent, encompassing several artists hailing from the realms of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and even a few from the Hindi film industry. The casting journey involved an extensive mega audition process, with over 100 artists vying for roles, ultimately shortlisting 15 individuals for this monumental venture.
Reports suggest that the much-anticipated 1-minute-plus teaser for 'Kantara Chapter 1' will offer a glimpse into Rishab Shetty's character look, accompanied by captivating divine music.
