Kariya Production
"Kariya" marked Prem's directorial debut, preceding his film "Excuse Me." Due to the gangster-themed storyline, director Prem and producer Anekal Balaraj bailed out 23 criminals to appear in the film. Balaraj attempted to convince the female gangster Mari Muthu to join the cast, but she declined, citing concerns that the film might perpetuate violence in society and damage her reputation. Some scenes featuring these criminals were filmed in locations where they had previously committed crimes. Darshan, who made his debut in the crime film "Majestic," was cast in the lead role, while Abhirami, daughter of actress Anuradha, was chosen for the female lead.
