He has many facets in his personality. He was a journalist for some time and did assist some top bollywood directors in Mumbai to understand the finer points and nuances of film making. Then he did work as an associate director for the Kannada film Miss California. He is Sandeep Malani who has now become a full fledged film director and his recent film SMS 6260 has completed its shooting work. The film is being produced by US based Jahnu who had acted as a heroine in Miss California. Who is also acting in the lead role in SMS 6260.
As the name suggests, the film is a love story of people having a modern and cosmopolitan outlook. The film should belong to people of all age groups- from the age of six to sixty, says Malani. He was addressing a press conference to give details about the work so far done with regard to SMS 6260.
Malani did not want to elaborate on the story very much, but said that he not only directed the film but had also choreographed the song sequences. Most of the shooting was held in Mangalore and its peripheries and the well planned shooting was completed on time. "The unit had to work round the clock for 35 days at a stretch as Jahnu had to necessarily go to USA. 'There were some bottlenecks earlier as Jahnu had met with an accident which kept her out of activity for more than two months and our shooting schedules went haywire' says Malani.
The film has the Kanglish (Kannada and English mix is Kanglish) language and I would call it a Kanglish cinema. I have used the language which is normally spoken by upper class people in the cosmopolitan Bangalore. The film relates to upper middle class and rich people and reflects their dreams, frustrations and aspirations' he added. The film has been planned for release just prior to the Valentine day in 2007. (Feb 14)
Jahnu took the dual responsibility of being the producer and the film's lead actress very seriously and she has performed both the roles with admirable authenticity. Jahnu says "Everything was cool in the shooting. Malani was brisk and dedicated' she declared. Kiran, Diganth, Smrithi, Dattanna, Vijayalakshmi, Badri are in the cast of this film. Selvam is the cameraman.
