According to reliable sources, it is Dr. Baragooru Ramachandrappa who has made it to the National awards this time. Baragooru's film Thaayi based on Maxim Gorki's Russian work Mother has bagged the best regional film award sidelining Girish Kasaravalli's directorial venture Naayi Neralu.
It is believed that Baragooru has also won the Best Lyric writer award for his lyrics in the films. Actress Jayamala's children film Thuttoori directed by P. Sheshadri is believed to have won the award for the Best film on entertainment. The National awards Jury committee headed by Kannada film actress B.Saroja Devi has already given the list, but the Central Government is yet to announce the winners as there has been a legal tangle in the form of a Mumbai High Court order which accepted a writ plea that even uncensored films should be accepted for consideration of the National awards.
