Shastry bags Dadasaheb Phalke award

The annual Dadasaheb Phalke award goes to senior Kannada producer C.V.L. Shastry, who received the award last Thursday at a function in Mumbai. The award and certificate of Legendary Film Producer was presented to Shastry by yesteryear super hero Rajesh Khanna. Ramesh Prasad and Santosh Singh Jain, President of Dadasaheb Phalke Academy were also present at the event.

C.V.L. Shastry is an industrialist who performed a key role in the touring talkies revolution in Karnataka. He produced films like Malaya Marutha, Aseya bale, Kalla kulla, all of them starring Dr. Vishnuvardhan. The serial Malgudi Days, based on R.K. Narayan's short stories in the direction of Shankar Nag, was also produced by Shastry. He was earlier the President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. Smt. Parvathamma Rajkumar and R. Lakshman have received the same honour in earlier years.
