Jayamala gets doctorate degree

Actress Jayamala, whose original name was Jayanthi, was honoured with the doctorate degree by former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Governor of Karnataka Shri Rameshwar Thakur recently for her presentation about the plight of rural woman.

This is the first time a Kannada film actress has received doctorate for writing a thesis. Earlier B. Saroja Devi has been given a honorary doctorate from the Bangalore University for her contribution to the Kannada film industry. Another Kannada actress Chandni has obtained doctorate by being a student studying the management studies. Dr. Rajkumar, Dr. Vishnuvardhan have got the honorary doctorate.
