Upendra shakes for free

Real star Upendra is the first hero in Sandalwood to perform an item song in a film. But he does not regret doing a cameo in Mast Maja Madi. Upendra opines that if Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan can do it, he also can.

Upendra danced with 12 heroines in a song in Mast Maja Madi which is the highlight of the film. The heroines in the song are Andrita Ray, Sharmila Mandre, Keerthi Chawla, Gauri Munjal, Shireen, Ragini, Sanjana, Mahi, Suman Ranganath, Ramanitu Chowdhary, Naitanya and Rekha. The song was shot at the famous Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. Apparently producer Soundarya Jagdish was inspired by the song "Om Shanti Om Shanti Om" where Shahrukh danced along with many artistes of Bollywood.

The interesting thing is that Upendra did not take any remuneration for the three day shoot of the song. He says that he agreed to do the item song for his long-time friend Soundarya Jagdish. Jagdish was adamant about paying Upendra, who lovingly rejected it saying he would do it for free.
