Dr. Rajkumar statue to be shifted to new place

Late Kannada actor Dr. Rajkumar's statue, which was supposed to be installed opposite Rani Kitturu Chennamma"s statue near Town Hall Circle in Bangalore, will be shifted to a new location. On Wednesday, the Karnataka High Court disposed the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by BV Puttegowda and suggested the BBMP to change the location of the statue.

Earlier, BV Puttegowda had filed a PIL in the Karnataka High Court questioning the installation of the 13-feet brass statue opposite Rani Kitturu Chennamma"s statue at JC Road in Bangalore. The division bench headed by PD Dinakaran disposed the petition after the BBMP counsel agreed that the location of the statue will be shifted and a new place will be identified after getting an approval from the state government.

However, petitioner BV Puttegowda had claimed earlier that Dr Rajkumar"s statue would obstruct the Chennamma statue that was already there in the place. He had also claimed that it was against the BBMP resolution of April 2006 that specified the statue would be placed beside the Rani Chennamma statue.
