Chimpanzee playing lead in Appu Pappu

Though attempts of casting an animal in movies is popular in Hollywood, there are very few attempts in Indian Cinema. Now, Masth Maja Maadi fame R Anantha Raju and Soundarya Jagadish are all set to create a history in Indian Cinema through their upcoming film Appu Pappu. For the first time, a Chimpanzee is playing a lead role in Kannada Cinema.

The story revolves around a boy and a Chimpanzee. Producer Soundarya Jagadish's son is playing another lead role along with Chimpanzee named Varangataana. The shooting of the film Appu Pappu was supposed to start in November. But movie bosses could not find a Chimpanzee. Later, they visited Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and many other places for the same. Finally, they got it in Cambodia, says the producer. Now, the Chimpanzee has been trained for 50 days.

The shooting of the movie Appu Pappu was started on December 19, 2009 and presently, it is being shot in Cambodia. Abbas and Rekha are back to Sandalwood with this film. Hamsalekha is scoring the music and Krishna is the cameraman. Palaniraj is choreographing the stunts and Ram Naryan has written the dialogues. This film also features Komal Kumar, Rangarayan Raghu in the supporting roles.
