Oneindia remembers demised Kannada celebs in 2010

The year 2010 has been very unfortunate for Kannada film industry. Sandalwood has lost several veteran actors, directors, producers, cinematographers and singers in this year. The death of Vishnuvardhan, KS Ashwath, C Ashwath, Vaishali Kasaravalli, Naveen Mayur, BS Ranga, Manjunath, Chindodi Leela, Murali, MV Krishnamurthy, Indudhar and his wife Hema has shocked the Kannada audiences.

C Ashwath: Just a couple of days before the New Year day, the Kannada film industry lost singer C Ashwath, a master of Kannada Sugam Sangeetha. The 70-year-old musician passed away at 7.00 am on 29th December at Columbia Asia Hospital in Bangalore. He was admitted to the hospital on 17th December after he complained of abdominal pain and was being treated for liver and Kidney problem when he breathed his lost. Dr. Vishnuvardhan: The biggest shock was waiting for the Kannada audience in the store. When they were struggling to recover from the death of C Ashwath, Sahasa Simha Dr. Vishnuvardhan died of heart attack at 2.30 am on 30th December at Vikram Hospirtal in Mysore. The legendary actor complained of chest pain at 1.00am and he was immediately rushed to the hospital, but in vein. His funeral took place with all state honour at the Abhiman Studios in Bangalore on the same day evening. Click here to read more.

KS Ashwath: Within 20 days after Vishnu's death, Sandalwood suffered a loss of another senior Kannada actor. KS Ashwath passed away at Basappa Memorial Hospital in Mysore at 1.45 on January 18, 2010. He was ailing from long time and he was admitted to the hospital on 13th January after he suffered a minor brain attack. His funeral was held at the Rudrabhoomi in Chamundi Hill, Mysore. Chindodi Leela: Four days after KS Ashwath's sad demise, theatre artiste and actress Chindodi Leela died of heart attack at a private hospital at 9.10 pm on 22nd January. The 72-year-old actress had undergone a bypass surgery on January 18. Her last rites were performed with full state honours at Halepete in Davangere. Click here to read more.

Indudhar-Hema: Another biggest shock to the audience was the suicide of Kannada actor Indudhar and his wife Hema. The Sandalwood star's dead body was found hanging from the ceiling fan while his wife's body was laid on the bed at their Jayanagar residence. Jayanagar police suspected that Indudhar might have killed his wife Hema first and then he has hanged himself to the ceiling fan. Click here to read more.

Murali: Popular south Indian actor Murali died of heart attack at a private hospital in Chennai on 8th September. The 46-year-old actor was admitted to the hospital in Chennai. He breathed his last at 4.00 am due to a cardiac failure. The actor, who starred in both Kannada and Tamil, had acted in more than 60 films. Click here to read more.


Jagannath: Producer Jagannath passed away at his residence on 17th September following a heart attack. He was suffering from kidney failure and had been undergoing treatment for a long time. Rathnakar: Veteran comedian Rathnakar passed away on 21st September in Mysore. The popular comedian was known for his simplicity. Before his death, he had donated his eyes to the JSS Medical Hospital. Click here to read more.


MV Krishnamurthy: V Shantharam award recipient MV Krishnaswamy died at his residence in Malleswaram, Bangalore on September 25. The 87-year-old filmmaker is known for his films like Papa Punya and Subba Sastry. He also acted as a hero in the film Bharati opposite actress Padmini. Click here to read more.


Vaishali Kasaravalli: TV serial director and actress Vaishali Kasaravalli died of kidney failure on 27th September at Manipal Hospital Jayanagar in Bangalore. The wife of director Girish Kasaravalli was ailing from liver damage and kidney failure due to diabetics. Her funeral was held according to her family tradition at Banashankari Crematorium in Bangalore on 28th September. Click here to read more.

Naveen Mayur: Kannada actor Naveen Mayur died at 5.30 pm on Sunday on 3rd October. The 32-year-old chocolate hero was suffering from jaundice. He was admitted to a private hospital in Bangalore, but he could not respond to the doctors' treatment. Naveen's funeral was held at Banshakari Crematorium in Bangalore on Monday afternoon. BS Ranga: Noted director-cinematographer BS Ranga died at a private hospital in Chennai on December 12. The 93-year-old producer was suffering from multiple-organ failure. He was survived by three sons and a daughter. Click here to read more.
