Who Is The Best Kannada Director of 2012?
With the entry of young blood, Sandalwood is going through an experimental stage. Directors with new ideas are coming in and are not feared to what they believe is right. As a result, we can see a lot of swamakes (original) films coming up in last few years and becoming hits at the Box Office.
The year 2012 has turned out to be a decent year for the industry. Over 90 films have been made in the current year and 20+ films have earned good money at the Box Office. Though there is a countable superhit films, films with stars have not failed at Box Office.
Of all A-list actors, Upendra had highest number of releases this year. Aarakshaka, Katari Veera Suransundarangi, Godfather and Kalpana. Darshan had two release - Chingari and Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna. Sudeep had no release this year but managed to gain popularity with the massive success of his Telugu film Eega.

AP Arjun
AP Arjun had made an impressive directorial debut in Ambari but it took another three years to complete Addhuri starring Dhruv Sarja and Radhika Pandit. Due to one or the other problem, the project was halted. However, the success of the film has made him a promising director.
Naganna
Naganna is often remembered for remake films. When he announced Sangolli Rayanna, many were surprised to see him taking up a historical project. Moreover, the budget of the film made to assume that the director was putting the producer in trouble. But he made many critics to take back their words, as the Darshan and Jayaprada starrer film has become the highest grosser film of 2012.
Suri
Expectations were sky high on Suri after the success of Jackie starring Puneet Rajkumar. Adding to that his next film with the Power Star himself made the audience wait for the film on their toes. Well, the film got mixed reviews from audience and critics. Nonetheless, the film was successful at the Box Office.
Pawan Wadeyar
Pawan Wadeyar's Govindaya Namaha garnered state attention with its song 'Pyarge agbutaite...' The film starring Komal, Parul Yadav and Rekha was received well by audience and critics. The large part of the credit goes to the new director for his marketing ability and selling skill.
Srinivasa Raju
Srinivasa Raju's Dandupalya gave a new lease of life to Pooja Gandhi, whose career was going nowhere. The film on real-life gangsters became hit among mass and won a lot of appreciation for the director's guts to pick up the realistic subject.
Yogaraj Bhat
Yogaraj Bhat was often criticised for penning weak stories. But Drama starring Yash, Radhika Pandit and Neenasam Sathish changed the perception of audience as the film impressed youths and family audience.
Sumana Kittur
Sumana Kittur has proved again with Edegarike that an action film can be made without glorifying violence. In her usual style, the lady director made the film, which stars Aditya, Akansha and Atul Kulkarni, on a real life story. Critics and fans gave thumbs up for the content.
Vijayprasad
Vijayprasad earned a good name for his debut film Sidlingu starring Yogish, Ramya and Suman Ranganathan. Good narration and story blended with humour worked out well for the film.
Om Prakash Rao
Bheema Theeradalli is the most controversial movie of 2012, as the film faced plagiarism charges from a leading Kannada journalist. After the release, the film raises a lot of open debate, which helped the film to get good publicity. Om Prakash Rao, on a rare note, made a film on a real-life stories.
Suresh Krishna
The first Kannada 3D film in the last decade and a half is a technically brilliant film. Upendra and Ramya starrer Katari Veera Surasundarangi is directed by Suresh Krishna, who was not even seen once during film's promotional activities. However, the film with its 3D factor attracted all section of audience and made good business at the Box Office.
