Kannada Film Subsidy Committee facing corruption charges

By Ramchander

A shocking sting operation by a Kannada news channel has exposed the Kannada Quality Subsidy Committee's involvement in corruption. This has put the 50 eligible movies to come under the scanner.

Suresh Mangalore, one of the members of the committee, has been caught taking bribe on camera. Director Kudlu Ramakrishna, who is the man behind the expose, has alleged that Suresh asked him to pay Rs 2.5 lakh in order to avail the subsidy for his film Bettadapura Ditta Makkalu and he deposited it to his account. However, Kudlu Ramakrishna was shocked to see that his film did not feature in the list of 50-films.

But the Subsidy Committee chaired by veteran actor Shivaramanna, who has a clean image, has expressed his shock at the development and demanded the punishment for both: Giver and taker. The other members of the committee are Abiruchi Chandru, Mahadev, Ramakrishna, BR Lakshman Rao, Mahabala Murthy Kodlakere and SN Ravishanker.

The Karnataka Government sanctions subsidies for 50 films. While the film under general gets Rs 10 lakh, the movies on children's will get Rs 25 lakh.
