who
passed
away
in
the
wee
hours
of
Thursday
(Oct
24)
in
Bangalore,
had
shared
a
close
bond
with
city.
Though
he
was
born
and
brought
up
in
West
Bengal
and
spent
55
years
in
Mumbai,
the
singer
spent
his
last
days
in
the
Garden
city.
The
94-year-old
singer,
who
made
his
debut
as
a
playback
singer
in
the
film
Tamanna
in
1942,
has
crooned
more
than
4,000
songs
in
Hindi,
Bengali,
Gujarati,
Marathi,
Malayalam,
Kannada
and
Assamese.
His
singing
career
during
1953-1976
is
considered
as
his
golden
period.
Manna
Dey
has
crooned
five
songs
in
Kannada
film,
when
the
industry
was
still
in
the
beginning
stage.
He
crooned
evergreen
tracks
like
'Jayathe
jayathe
jayathe
sathyameva
jayathe'
from
Kalpavruksha,
'Kuhu
kuhu
yenutha
haaduva
kogile'
from
Kalavathi,
'Kannillaveno
nijakanadeno'
and
'Anu
Anuvinallu'
from
Margadarshi
and
'Neere
neere
baare
bega'
for
the
earlier
version
of
Sangolli
Raayanna,
which
also
had
Latha
Mangeshkar's
voice.
Manna
Dey's
body
was
kept
in
Samsa
open
air
theatre,
which
is
behind
Ravindra
Kalakshetra.
The
famous
singers

Kannada
and
other
actors
attended
the
funeral
and
paid
their
last
tribute
to
the
legend.
The
last
rites
of
the
singer
was
done
in
Hebbal
Crematorium.
