Rakhi Special: Brother-Sister Sentimental Kannada Movies Of Last Decade

By Ramchander

Like every year, Raksha Bandhan, the festival that celebrates the relationship between a brother and sister, is before us once again. It is the day when a sister ties a rakhi on the wrist of her brother and prays for his long life. Brothers in return promises to protect them from every obstacle.

There have been a lot of movies made on brother-sister sentiment and their relationship. In earlier days when script was given more importance than the stars in the film, many movies were made keeping the bond shared by a brother and sister in mind.

Every other star of the gone era have acted in the movies based on brother-sister sentiment. In the changing times, with the advent of commercial cinema, very rarely do we see such films. Producers shell out money only if they are confident of at least pulling a certain section of the audience.

The likes of Dr Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh, Devaraj and many others in Sandalwood have acted in such movies. However, these days, though the number of movies made on brother-sister sentiment are very less, filmmakers ensure to add the flavour of brother-sister by showcasing a few scenes related to the love shared by a brother and sister in their movies.

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, we would like to remember brother-sister sentimental movies made in the last decade. Continue reading it on the slideshow...

Thavarige Baa Thangi (2002)

The movie was directed by Sai Prakash. Shivaraj Kumar and Radhika Kumaraswamy had played lead roles in the flick. It had attracted huge family audience and the Shivanna-Radhika jodi was well-appreciated.

The success paved way for many other movies in the same genre. Interestingly, Shivaraj Kumar and Radhika teamed up for the similar subjects in later years.
