Viswaroopam's loss is Varadanayaka's gain

By Ramchander

The ban on Tamil film Viswaroopam seems to have turned out to be a blessing for Kannada film Varadanayaka in Karnataka, as the Sudeep starrer film has got a good opening. The Sandalwood film was expected to be effected by the Kollywood film but the distributor's decision to wait for the judgement on the ban till January 28 helped Varadanayaka to get a flying start at the Box Office.

A source from a theatre, on the condition of anonymity, said, "Many had booked tickets for Viswaroopam of which many are locals. When we announced that the show has been cancelled, they were obviously irritated but they had other options like Race 2 and Varadanayaka, which are biggies in their respective industries."

He further adds, "While Race 2 has garnered negative reviews from critics and audience, Varadanayaka has got mixed reviews but it is getting good word-of-mouth. In the end, the Sandalwood film benefited a lot from this development. Though the Sudeep's film was getting decent response, the ban on Viswaroopam made the audience, who had come to theatre despite uncertainty, to turn towards Varadanayaka."

Varadanayaka stars Sudeep, Chiranjeevi Sarja, Sameera Reddy and Nikisha Patel in the leads. It is an action film directed by Ayyappa P Sharma. Meanwhile, HD Gangaraju, the distributor of Viswaroopam, has said that he is awaiting for the verdict, which will be delivered today (January 28).
