Cinematographer VK Murthy Passes Away

Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee, Cinematographer VK Murthy passed away, today, April 7. He was 91. Murthy was suffering from the age factor diseases from past few days, and breathed his last this morning at his residence in Shankarpuram, Bangalore.

Venkatram Krishna Murthy was popularly known with his screen name as VK Murthy in B-Town and Gandhinagara. He was born on November 26 1923 in Mysore. He was a well known cinematographer in Bollywood at its classic age. He had worked as the cameraman for the Hindi movies like Baazi, Jaal, Aar Paar, Mr And Mrs 55, CID Pyaasa, 12 O Clock, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, Ziddi, Love In Tokyo, Naya Zamana, Kalyug Aur Ramayan and others.

Apart from Hindi movies, VK Murthy has handled the camera for Kannada movie Hoovu Hannu, which was directed by Rajendra Singh Babu. He had also acted in the movie, which had ace actress Lakshmi in the lead role.

VK Murthy started his career as a stage artist in Mumbai at Mysore Association. He had also participated in India's freedom struggle for which he was imprisoned in 1943. In 2001, VK Murthy shifted his residence from Mumbai to Bangalore. The last riots of the deceased will be held in Bangalore.
