Like every year, 2014 too saw a huge string of flop movie and bad performance by the actors in Kannada film industry. However, some of the performances by the top actors in the industry stood out among the ruins and impressed the audience and fans.
The year started with the dismal performance of the movie Ninnindale which starred Power Star Puneet Rajkumar and Erica Fernandes. Puneet was able to redeem himself with a power packed performance in his next movie Power***. Real star Upendra too managed to come up with a great perfomance in his movie Brahma.
The movie Brahma did not do spectacularly in the box office, but the actor was praised for playing the dual role with much elan and ferocity. Many other movies that got released around the same time crumbled due to poor performance by the lead actors and lack of strong script.
Among these flops, actor Srimurali made a roaring comeback into the film industry with the blockbuster hit movie Ugramm. As a dreaded gangster called Agasthya, Srimurali played the role of a fierce man with a calm demeanor with ease. The actor's popularity grew ten folds after the success of the movie.
Other noteworthy performances of the year were by Sudeep and Yash. Kichcha Sudeep played the role of a son to Crazy Star Ravichandran for the first time in the movie Maanikya. Sudeep's chemistry with Ravichandran became the highlight of the movie. Yash on the other hand established himself as a top league actor with the movie Gajakesari.
Perhaps the most underrated performance of the year was by actor/director Rakshit Shetty. Playing the role of a goon name Richie in Ulidavaru Kandanthe, the actor was his sublime best. Apart from brilliant cinematography and screenplay, Rakshit Shetty's portrayal of a violent and psychotic trigger happy goon was appreciated by all the critics.
Srimurali In Ugramm
Actor Srimurali's career was almost over after a string of flops and unsuccessful movie. But the movie Ugramm changed everything for the actor. The movie was a critical and commercial success. Srimurali's portrayal of Agasthya, the dreaded gangster was high appreciated.
Sudeep In Maanikya
Maanikya became a high point in Superstar Sudeep's career. A remake of the Telugu hit Mirchi, Sudeep's acting and his chemistry with Crazy Star Ravichandran was terrific. Movie became a success on the box office due to their performance. It was among the highest grosser of all time.
Upendra In Brahma
Although Brahma was not a successful movie, Upendra shows why he is among the top most actors in the industry. He played the role of a gangster who is connected by fate to a 16th century warrior. Playing two different roles at a time, Upendra as a show stopper.
Ganesh In Dil Rangeela
Dil Rangeela became another movie to do just average business at the box office. Ganesh played his usual lover boy role in the movie who is caught between the affection of two girls. Ganesh has played this kind of role before. The movie was however appreciated more for Rachita Ram's acting.
Puneet Rajkumar In Power***
Puneet Rajkumar started the year on the wrong foot. His movie Ninnindale with Erica Fernandes failed miserably on the box office. But the actor made up for the loss with his next movie of the year Power***. Puneet was at his best in a action-comedy movie, which gave wholesome entertainment.
Darshan In Ambareesha
Ambareesha is perhaps the biggest blockbuster of the year so far. Making 10 crores in just three days, the movie again confirmed Darshan as the Sultan of Box Office. Movie was criticized for a poor script and screenplay. But Darshan brought intensity to his role and was able to win the hearts of his fans once again.
Shivaraj Kumar In Belli
Shivaraj Kumar had a mixed year in 2014. His first movie Aryan was total failure at the box office. The movie did not last more than a week in the theatres. However, he was able to redeem himself with the movie Belli. While the movie was not a complete hit both critically or commercially, Shivanna's acting was a high point in the movie.
Duniya Vijay In Simhadri
Duniya Vijay did not have a successful year. With too much personal problems to deal with, the actor seems to have moved away from limelight. However, he did come out with Simhadri, a family oriented movie. The movie did not get very positive reviews, but Duniya Vijay gave his best in the movie.
Yash In Gajakesari
Rocking star Yash has had a golden run in the box office. After the success of Drama, Googly and Raja Huli, Yash gave another blockbuster hit with Gajakesari. Yash had a dual role in the movie. His portrayal of a violent ancient warrior called Baahubali was loved by the audience.
Rakshit Shetty In Ulidavaru Kandanthe
Rakshit Shetty debuted as a director in Ulidavaru Kandanthe. The movie was brilliant display of excellent cinematography, thrilling background score and a well executed screenplay. Rakshit Shetty stole the show with his terrific performance in the movie as Richie. The character is now very popular among the fans.
