Known popularly as the Karate King of Sandalwood, Shankar Nag died on the wee hours of September 30, 1990 in a car accident near Anegodu, Davangere district.

The famous actor was heading back to Bengaluru after finishing shooting for the film, Jokumaraswamy.

The news of his death hit his fans abysmally. Even to this day, people still remember the iconic actor.

Kalpana

Kalpana

Minugu Taare Kalpana, as she is fondly remembered in Sandalwood till date, died on May 30, 1979. The actress who was then 37 years old committed suicide as her marriage fell apart.

Kalpana was a brilliant artist having won multiple State and Filmfare awards for her stellar performance in over 50 films.

Suneel

Suneel

The then young actor of Sandalwood, Suneel, tragically died in a road accident. Suneel, who hailed from Mangalore, was introduced to Sandalwood by Dwarkeesh.

He was paired with actress Malashri in most of his films. Interestingly, both Suneel and Malashri were dating each other and the actress was with Suneel in the same car when the accident happened.

While Malashri miraculously escaped from the jaws of death, Suneel unfortunately lost his life. The entire state was in shock after the news became public.

Manjula, a reputed Kannada actress in the 1980s, died from a fire accident in 1986. The actress, who remained far from the film industry after her marriage, died when the stove in her kitchen blasted. The actress was just 35 years old when the mishap took place.

Born as Vijaylakshmi but known famously as Silk Smitha, the actress died of mysterious circumstances at her Chennai apartment. The actress, who had acted in more than 200 films in 4 languages suffered from depression. She was just 35 when she died.

Rajesh, who initially hailed from a village won a reality show which brought him to the spotlight of Sandalwood. The reality show winner eventually got a few offers but abruptly ended his life by jumping from the balcony of his house on the third floor. It is said that the actor was mentally ill.

Hemashree, a famous actress who was seen in multiple Kannada serials, committed suicide at a very young age. The small screen actress died due to over exposure to chloroform. It is said that the actress was unhappy with her marriage and life.
