Did Unni Mukundan’s Marco Take A Dig At Yash? Dialogue Sparks Debate Among KGF Fans

Did Unni Mukundan's Marco Mock Yash? Yash's KGF film series has redefined mass action cinema in India, setting a new standard for the genre. The tremendous success of KGF 1 and KGF 2 has made Yash a superstar adored nationwide, while also expanding the market for Kannada cinema. Currently, Yash is focused on his upcoming film, Toxic, further solidifying his status as a pan-India star and elevating Kannada cinema to greater prominence.
A scene from the recently released Malayalam film Marco has reignited discussions about KGF on social media. According to a report by TV9 Kannada, some viewers believe that a particular dialogue in Marco takes a dig at KGF and Yash.
The Scene That Sparked Controversy
Marco, starring Unni Mukundan, has been a commercial success but has also received criticism for its intense violence. The film was rated 'A' by the Central Board of Film Certification due to its graphic content. Despite this, it performed well in India and overseas.
A specific scene from the film is now being debated online. In the scene, Unni Mukundan's character says, "I am a dog lover. I have a Husky, and its name is Rocky." Immediately after mentioning the name "Rocky," he spits blood from his mouth. Some KGF fans believe this is a reference to Yash's iconic character, Rocky Bhai, and have expressed disapproval, perceiving it as a disrespectful gesture.
Social Media Reactions
While Unni Mukundan's fans have defended the scene, calling it a part of the film's narrative, some KGF fans have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction. Some speculate that Marco aimed to position itself as a more violent film than KGF and that the dialogue might have been an attempt to establish its protagonist, Marco Peter, as a superior character to Rocky. However, there is no direct statement from the filmmakers indicating that the scene was intended as mockery.
Unni Mukundan's Take on Comparisons with KGF
During the promotions of Marco, before this controversy emerged, Unni Mukundan was asked about comparisons between Marco and KGF. In an interview, he responded:
"It ends there. I mean, I just take it as a compliment. These are two different kinds of films. I am a huge fan of Yash. The way he has lifted an entire industry-that is more cinematic for me than the entire film KGF. Huge respect to the gentleman and Prashanth Neel sir. The way they have shot the film is beautifully done. For us to be compared to KGF is kind of a compliment. But I will make it clear that Marco is one of its kind."
His statement indicates that he holds great respect for Yash and KGF and did not intend any disrespect.
As the debate continues online, the intent behind the scene remains open to interpretation. While some KGF fans feel offended, others believe it is merely a coincidence. With Unni Mukundan's prior statement praising Yash and KGF, it remains to be seen whether this discussion will settle or continue to spark reactions among moviegoers.
