Director-cum-producer
Sai
Prakash,
who
has
earlier
done
tearjerker
movies
like
Anna
Thangi,
Thvarina
Siri
and
Thavarige
Baa
Thangi,
has
once
again
come
up
with
same
brother-sister
sentiment
in
Devaru
Kotta
Thangi.
He
has
done
nothing
but
re-established
his
cliched
scenes,
dialogues
and
situations.
The
director
seems
to
have
understood
the
taste
of
the
audience,
but
not
completely.
So
he
has
just
brought
two
new
updates
in
his
movie
Devaru
Kotta
Thangi.
The
first
thing
is
the
use
of
graphics
especially
in
the
flood
scene,
which
is
wonderful.
The
second
is
the
use
of
comedy
element.
There
are
new
scenes
that
Saiprakash
has
taken
from
O
Henry"s
short
story
'The
Gift
of
the
Magi'
and
the
fable
'The
Little
Dutch
Boy'.
Earlier,
Sai
Prakash
had
said
in
an
interview
that
he
was
inspired
by
1970"s
Kannada
classic
Bhootayyana
Maga
Ayyu
to
do
the
move
Devaru
Kotta
Thangi,
but
it
is
nowhere
close
to
the
classic.
The
first
half
of
the
film
appears
like
a
documentary
on
the
Indian
festivals
like
Nagara
Panchami,
Bheemana
Amavasye
and
Ugadi.
Shivu
(Shivarajkumar)
is
poor
orphan
guy
and
he
works
in
the
village
headman's
house
(Avinash).
He
has
a
sister
named
Lakshmi
(Meera
Jasmine),
whom
he
loves
more
than
anything
else
in
the
world.
His
master"s
daughter
Gauri
(Monisha)
falls
in
love
with
him.
Meanwhile,
the
circumstances
lead
Lakshmi
to
marry
the
headman"s
third
son.
What
happens
next
will
form
the
story
of
the
movie.
Shivaraj
Kumar,
who
has
earlier
played
the
same
role
of
elder
brother,
has
once
again
delivered
a
challenging
performance.
As
his
sister
Lakshmi,
Meera
Jasmine
has
also
done
very
well.
As
his
love
interest,
Monisha
has
very
less
scope
to
prove
her
talents,
but
she
has
used
given
opportunity
to
impress
the
audiences.
Avinash,
Hema
Chaudhary,
Ramesh
Pandit,
Ramesh
Bhat,
Vasu
and
Sooraj
have
filled
lives
into
their
respective
roles.
Hamsalekha"s
music
is
unbeatable.
The
songs
on
Nagara
Panchami,
Bheemana
Amavasye
and
Ugadi
are
good,
but
other
songs
fail
to
impress
the
audiences.
Cameraman
R
Giri
has
done
his
work
efficiently.
In
a
nutshell,
it
is
no
wonder
if
Sai
Prakash"s
cliched
subject
in
Devaru
Kotta
Thangi
bores
the
audiences.
