Movie Yodha - Review

By By: Shekhar H Hooli

After the movie Kannadada Kiran Bedi, director Om Prakash Rao has come up with Yodha. He has once again teamed up with Challenging star Darshan. Darshan-Om Prakash combo has earlier done movies like Ayya, Mandya and Kalasipalya, which have been successful at the Box Office. Now, producer Rockline Venkatesh has joined hands with the combo to taste the success.

Movie Yodha is remake of Tamil movie Bose. It is a movie with little love and lot of patriotism. It deals with a story of a patriotic family. It has rich production values with a predictable screen play. The fighting scenes of the movie have been shot in a different and stylish way.

Om Prakash"s fast paced narrative style in the beginning creates lot of interest among the audience. He seems to have shown his creativity by changing a few sequences from the original. He has also tried to exhibit the present religion based politics by including recent incidents like Afzal Guru's hanging and the Mangalore Pub attack.

For Darshan, Yodha is the first release in 2009. In his earlier movies, he has waved swords and sickles with rowdies, but for the first time, he holds a gun in this movie. His fight sequences and delivery of punch dialogue boost the excitement of audience. Although his fight sequences with rowdies in the second half are marvelous, they seem quite dragging and bore the audience, who does not like too much of action scenes.

Captain Ram (Darshan) is a commando, who rescues minister Patil from a fake kidnap operation in Delhi. Impressed by his character, Patil hires the captain as his own security man. Once, he shoots a minister while rescuing a dancer Asha from being raped by him. He does not reveal the incident in the military court marshal in order to save her honour. This leads him to be sacked from the army. How he saves himself from being killed by the minister will form the climax of the movie Yodha.

Although Darshan rocks the show through out the movie with his action and dialogue, it seems that he does not fit in commando role. Nikitha looks sensuous in the film. She has shown her glamour quotient in the songs. Ashish Vidyarthi's same old way of acting will not impress the audience. Avinash, Sreenivasa Murthy excel in their respective roles. Om Prakash Rao has used his same old comic sequences, which makes Sadhu Kokila's comedy quite irritating.

Hamsalekha's music definitely contributes a lot to run the movie smoothly. But it seems he could have done even better songs. KM Vishnuvardhan's cinematography is wonderful.

If you are a Darshan fan, then don't miss to watch him in different get up.
