Salute - Review

Police officer-turned-actor-turned-politician BC Patil has finally come out with his debut directorial venture Salute. Although the movie seems to autobiographical sketch to some extent, the blending of commercial elements make it fiction.

Earlier, Tamil actors like Vijayakanth and Sarath Kumar had undertaken same kind of venture to promote their political careers. Now, BC Patil seems to have followed them in promoting himself as an honest and revolutionary politician. Although he has taken lot effort to grow to his present level, in very short time he has tried his level best in showing how an honest person like him can create a crime free rule in the state.

Besides playing lead role, BC Patil has taken too many responsibilities like direction, writing screenplay and dialogues. He has given commercial touch to the movie by including masala elements like comedy, action, sentimental and dance sequences. But he is like Jack of all Master of none. He has failed in all the areas. His dialogues do not carry necessary punch, the screenplay is very weak and many of the sequences are included without intention. There is no consistency in lead characters.

DCP BC Patil is an encounter specialist with full powers from his higher authorities. But evil elements frame him in the murder case of innocents and send him to jail. After completing 15 years imprisonment at Hindalga Jail in Belgaum, Patil turns a farmer leader and wins the Assembly election. He becomes Home Ministry. Later, how he becomes Chief Minister and brings good governance will form the rest of the story.

As an actor, Patil rocks the audiences but fails to impress them in dance sequences. Although his age suits the role, his heavy body does not sizzle in dance sequences. As lady police, actress Ashwini outshines Patil in both dance and action scenes. Vijay Kaundinya has shown there is no lack of a villain in Kannada film industry. Ashok Kheny does not act but stands silently like a doll in a showcase. Rachana Mourya rocks audience in her item song. Dingri Nagaraj's comedy is also okey.

Newcomer Sai Karthik impresses audiences with his background score, but his composition of songs is average. Only one song Onchuru Onchuru is worth listening. Although there is no

Earlier, actors like Saikumar, Triller Manju, Devaraj, Shashi Kumar, Vinod Alva, Charana Raju and Malashri had come out many movies about police. For quite long time, there was no police movies. Now, BC Patil's movie Salute fills the gap. Action lovers can watch the movie.
